Charlotte Street—A Boutique London Hotel Near Soho
Charlotte Street Hotel is another one of my favorite boutique hotels under the Firmdale Hotels brand. Again, the guest lounges are amazing and it also features the “honesty bar” where you can make yourself a free snack or drink.
I like to come here for afternoon tea or grab lunch at their delicious restaurant when I have a free moment in London. It’s also the perfect place to stay if you’re attending a conference in London or just looking for a place to stay for a weekend getaway in the area.
It’s just north of Soho and a short walk from Soho Square and the theater district. Soho Square is a small park that’s a local favorite. On the weekends, you’ll find it filled with couples having picnics, people reading a book while lounging on the grass, and clusters of friends and families spending an afternoon outdoors.
With a mix of vibrant wall murals, patterned chairs, and lots of fun and eclectic ceramics and textiles, the Charlotte Street Hotel ambiance feels every bit bohemian, eclectic, and vintage. The design—inspired by the Bloomsbury Group—is every bit living art.
Walking through the hotel, you’re inspired, intrigued, and taken aback by the charm, creativity, and beauty of the space.
Rooms
Charlotte Street has 52 rooms and suites that are fully equipped with wifi, flatscreen TVs, and docking stations. Each room is individually styled by art director and designer Kit Kemp so—truly—no two rooms are alike. The colors, patterns, and textiles are all different and so eclectic and fun. From bold color pairings to cute seating areas and working spaces, I find these rooms to be the kind of rooms where someone holes up to work on a manuscript, unwind from a stressful work week, or spend a meaningful family vacation in London together.
Your Stay, Experiences, and Dining Options
Oscar Bar and Restaurant is the hotel restaurant which is open to both guests and the public. They serve everything from afternoon tea to cocktails to breakfast, Sunday lunch, and dinner. They even offer post-theater dining which includes a delicious set menu of multiple options that includes starters, mains, desserts, and sides.
One thing I find absolutely sweet and lovely about this hotel is that—like the Covent Garden Hotel—they overdeliver in how they cater to families. Kids get milk and cookies at bedtime, they offer mini bathrobes, high chairs, babysitting service, children’s books and games, a welcome gift appropriate to your child’s age upon arrival, and so much more.
Because of its central London location, activities abound. It’s right in the same area as Covent Garden so there are tons of boutiques, galleries, museums (including the British Museum!), parks, bars, cafes, restaurants, and more. Check out my London city guide for more of London’s top activities, adventures, restaurants, and places.
