A River Resort Near Victoria Falls

On the banks of the Zambezi river sits one of the most magical, 5-star resorts. The Royal Livingstone Resort is located in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park with direct access to Victoria Falls (and the infamous Devil’s Pool).

I call it my “home away from home.” I’ve stayed here many times and planned several destination weddings and industry events here through my wedding planning boutique. Its stunning location, remarkable excursions and attractions, and hospitable staff make it a place that will forever have my heart. The team is incredibly generous, and they truly go out of their way to make sure you have a luxurious stay.

The Royal Livingstone opened in 2001 and features 173 ensuite rooms with private verandas. It’s built in a colonial architectural style and filled with vintage charm, African accents, and lush amenities.

Outside, two decks overlook the Zambezi River, making it the perfect spot to catch a sunrise or sunset, dine on savory dishes or sip your favorite afternoon tea or glass of wine.

Located a mere 25-minute drive from the airport off of mosi-o-tunya road and a 5-minute walk from Victoria Falls, you can easily get around while experiencing relaxation and adventure.

The resort boasts both boardrooms and conference rooms on-site, making it an excellent place for business meetings, weddings, and events.

Wild Animals Roam the Grounds

Zebra wander the hotel grounds which are dotted with towering monkey trees. Giraffe, impala, and monkeys also roam the premises, bringing the wonder of Africa almost to your front door. Safely, of course!

I love walking the grounds and taking in the views and river sounds. It’s so peaceful and I always find myself recharged and renewed.

Rooms

As mentioned, every room has a veranda with garden or river views. Each balcony is furnished and some rooms feature a sunroom for lounging or reading a book from your list. You can pick from both deluxe and premier rooms as well as suites or the very luxurious presidential suite.

Every room features beautiful interiors, the finest linens, plush beds, complimentary wifi, and luxury amenities. The rooms are so amazing that despite the amazing location, I sometimes want to cozy up inside and spend the day reading a book.

Your Stay and Experiences

You can treat yourself to both massage and butler services at the resort, which allows you to truly find your calm and unwind from months of packed schedules and full to-do lists

The resort offers wildlife encounters on the river, world-class spa experiences, and Victoria Falls experiences. They even offer what’s called the Victoria Falls Ultime Dining Experience. This private dinner overlooks the falls for a magnificent view. Create a bespoke menu with your personal chef, and your waiter will serve you at an intimate outdoor table setting where the rest of the world fades away.

There are so many activities and adventures to do all within close proximity to The Royal Livingstone. From safaris to riverboat cruises to helicopter rides over the falls, cultural village visits, quad bike rides and more, you’ll be beside yourself with all of the choices.

In my Livingstone City Guide, I detail all of the things to do within the area including my favorite.

Fresh Local Food and Fine Dining

The Royal Livingstone Resort has many settings around the hotel where you can dine or grab a drink. All dishes are inspired by both European and African cuisine. They also feature fresh ingredients that are sourced locally.

Whether you’re looking for a sit-down family meal, drink at the bar, or a fireside African meal, you can get just that. The Royal Livingstone dining experiences include:
● The Old Drift Restaurant where you can enjoy “inspired ala carte dining”
● Kubu Restaurant where you can “dine and toast to unrivaled views overlooking the Zambezi River”
● The Royal Livingstone Lounge where you can partake in “light dining with historic overtures”
● The Travellers Bar which is a “central meeting spot with Old World Charm”

● A Boma Dinner where you’ll experience “fireside African dining”
● Dining by design where they “reimagine private dining in an iconic setting” such as overlooking Victoria Falls
● High tea where you can enjoy a “refined afternoon tradition”
● In-room dining where you can order “your favorites whenever you want them”

The Royal Livingstone gives you adventure, beauty, luxury, and leisure all in one. It’s truly one of my most favorite places on earth.
