A Romantic Valentines Day Vacation in Africa

Weddings

Who doesn’t want a romantic Valentines Day vacation that’s full of sizzle and spice? While most of us really want to have relationships that are full of intimacy and excitement day-in and day-out throughout the year, that doesn’t mean we don’t love to spring for it and employ our creative juices for romantic valentine ideas that keep things fun and—perhaps—even a bit frivolous.

If you want to indulge yourself…

If getting away and surrounding yourself in a luxurious ambiance full of adventure and intrigue sounds like the perfect valentine’s gift or the perfect way to spend a romantic Valentines Day vacation, get excited because I want to introduce you to this hidden gem lodge—Tongabezi Lodge— on the banks of the Zambezi River in Africa.

Whether you’re looking for a trip to Africa for couples or you live in Zambia or on the continent, this is an absolute must-visit getaway. Having stayed multiple times in this relaxing and luxurious lodge on my trips to Africa, I also consider it one of the best honeymoon destinations in Africa because of it’s location, hospitality, ambiance, and personalized customer service.

As I take you on a tour of this romantic lodge in Africa, let’s start how your stay would begin the moment you arrive. We’ll take you outside, visit the restaurant for some amazing Valentine’s Day dinner ideas and inspiration, take you on a boat cruise, and more.

Tongabezi Shop, Reception, Welcome Drink, and Lounge

When you arrive at the Tongabezi Lodge for your romantic couples trip and getaway, follow our advice and first take a spin around their beautiful shop that is the most charming and inspiring African boutique.

As you arrive at the reception, you’ll be greeted with a warm smile and a welcome drink. Then, head over to the lounge and relax awhile. Shed any stress or worries you brought on the trip with you and still your mind as you get prepared to immerse yourself in an intimate experience with your partner.

Enjoy a Delicious Lunch

If you’ve arrived early in the day, you’ll probably be hungry. After your welcome drink, enjoy a mouth-watering lunch of fresh bread, soup, a crisp and fresh salad, and a delicious wrap. Prepared by a phenomenal chef, the Tongabezi restaurant has plenty of options. They source ingredients locally and serve a variety of fresh fruit and vegetable options, according to the season.

Take in the Views from the Lounge or On the Deck

Step onto the Tongabezi Lodge Deck and enjoy beautiful views of the Zambezi River or take in the breathtaking colours of an African sunset or sunrise. From the lounge to the guest rooms, there are so many places both indoor and outdoor to enjoy stunning river views.

Go on an Adventure on a Boat Cruise to No Man’s Island and a River Safari to See Big Game

Sip cocktails and take in the sights and game on a boat cruise to No Man’s Island. No Man’s Island is the border crossing between Zambia and Zimbabwe. On this unique island, you are technically not in either country, but you can experience the seventh wonder of the world, Victoria Falls, from both sides.

Stay in Two of My Favorite Places—the Nuthouse or the Treehouse

Stay in two of my favorite places—the Nuthouse or the Treehouse—and indulge in amenities like an exhilarating shower on your private deck, a relaxing bubble bath, and even a yummy breakfast in bed nestled among the coziest bed and softest sheets.

The Nuthouse

Tongabezi describes this house as “A haven from the elements, the Nut House is entirely enclosed with light streaming in through every wall. The best art, textiles and textures are combined from around the African continent with design elements from Morocco, Mali, Zambia and South Africa featuring in this room.”

The Treehouse

Tongabezi describes this house as follows:

“Set against the basalt rock bed, amongst the branches of three riverine Ebony trees, this house spreads out over a sustainable pine deck that guarantees incredible views of the Zambezi River.

The king-size bed has a large, canopied mosquito net with air conditioning and the extensive space can also be used for private dining and lounging. The bathroom’s crowning glory is a perfectly positioned claw-footed bath. Everything from the Anatolian carpets to the Asian chests and West African artwork the Tree House invokes exotic daydreams.

The front facade of the Tree House is completely open, making this house so much part of the surroundings that you can experience the beauty and majesty of Zambia without setting a foot outside the comfort of your room.”

Indulge in a Wide Variety of Delicious Valentine’s Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Options (Plus Cocktails!)

At Tongabezi Lodge, you can dine with other guests or at a private table on one of three decks. They also have a beautiful new dining room and bar.

You can also “experience a Sampan anchored offshore in the Zambezi River, attended by waiters who deliver each course by canoe”. I’ve experienced so many delights at Tongabezi and this experience is next on my list! Doesn’t it sound delightful?!

You also have the option to dine on white sand on Sindabezi Island with your own private chef or on the elevated deck at Tangala House with its own kitchen, dining area, and veranda. It’s a dream for dining under the stars!

Quiet Your Mind and Body in Plenty of Relaxation Spots

There are so many beautiful spaces to relax and enjoy the authentic African ambiance. Read a book, sip coffee together, take a swim, or let your thoughts run away as you take in the stunning textures, decor, and accents.
